The Total Eclipse of April 8, 2024 in Waco

Waco is perfectly placed to see totality! Though not right on the centerline, the downtown area will still get a very respectable 4m 13s of totality!

Where can I see the total eclipse?

You almost can’t go wrong anywhere you choose in the area. The path takes a SW-NE path through the state, and stretches all the way from San Antonio through Dallas. So the towns of Killeen, Temple and Corsicana are all in the path. The centerline itself is only about 10 miles northwest of Waco, so you’ll be just fine staying there for the entire eclipse!

If you want to get the maximum amount of totality possible in the region, you’ll want to be on the centerline near Hillsboro, Valley Mills or Gatesville. These towns will get over 4m 20s in the shadow!

What will I see on eclipse day?

Waco is well situated to see the eclipse. Enjoy totality!

If you have to escape clouds, we've written blog posts for Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio if you’d like more info on viewing prospects for those locations.

Order eclipse glasses! Remember that even if you are in the path of totality, if the Sun is not COMPLETELY eclipsed you MUST always use ISO-certified eye protection to watch the eclipse. You MUST use your eclipse glasses to observe all the partial phases.

Use ISO-certified eye protection during the partial phases

ISO Certification

ISO Certification Always remember the rule for using eye protection during an eclipse: If there’s ANY bright part of the Sun showing, then you have to use your eclipse glasses to watch the event.

The Eclipse2024.org Eclipse Simulator That means if you can see anything at all of the Sun through the glasses, then the Sun is too bright and you have to leave the glasses on! If you can see absolutely NO piece of the Sun through the eclipse glasses, then it’s safe to take them off. But the second any bright part of the Sun becomes visible again, you have to put them back on – and this can be mere seconds after you took them off.
