Alturas is one of a very few cities in the far northeastern part of California where the 2023 eclipse will be annular. The partial eclipse starts at around 8:05am and the asymmetrical Ring of Fire will happen at 9:19 (and last just under 2 minutes). If there's good weather, the eclipse should be very interesting, with edge effects possible as the Moon slides across the Sun's "top left" limb. Amarillo TX

2023 Eclipse City of the Week for June 20, 2022


The 2023 eclipse from Amarillo, near the time of maximum eclipse

The partial eclipse in Amarillo starts at around 10:18am. The eclipse will reach a maximum around 11:43, but it will not be annular. You'll see a very nice, deep partial eclipse in Amarillo! To see the "Ring of Fire", you'll need to be in Seminole, Hobbs NM, Roswell NM, or down near the Midland- Odessa area. San Angelo is also barely within the path.
