Official Plans for viewing the eclipse from Washington

The Washington Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Parks and Recreation Department are making plans for a Total Solar Eclipse viewing event at the Washington, Missouri Fairgrounds.  The event will begin at 9am, with education areas, vendors (food, drink, and souvenir), “solar” games for children, Eclipse art exhibit, music, and an education area.  Washington will have 2 minutes and 28 seconds duration of total eclipse, however the first contact view until the last will be approximately two hours and 54 minutes; 11:48am through 2:43pm.  As the moon finishes eclipsing the sun an after-eclipse party will commence with music and entertainment.

The eclipse's trek through Missouri is one of the more interesting, because more people will see the eclipse here by default, than at any other point along the path.  Kansas City and St. Louis are split by the path, so suffice it to say that you will only see a brief totality there.  People from these areas will have to move more into the path to see this unbelievable sight.  St. Louis folks, just need to head west to Washington.  Washington does fall in the in the path of totality viewing and will be celebrating this unique event!

The Washington Fairgrounds is in the western side of the City, off Grand Avenue.  Parking will be free.  Eclipse glasses may be purchased in advance at the Washington Visitor Center, 301 W. Front Street, or on the Fairgrounds the day of the event.
