The next total solar eclipse visible from the continental United States occurs August 21, 2017. This will be the first such event to cross our entire country in almost 100 years. The shadow of the Moon passes over the northeast corner of Kansas, providing Marysville with 1 minute and 11 seconds of totality!

It’s time to start planning for this once-in-a-lifetime event!  Initial plans for viewing in Marysville are noted below and more will be released as we get closer to August.

THINGS TO DO DURING YOUR STAY

Marysville has many attractions and activities sure to keep you busy during your stay.  Our area museums will be open on Saturday for you to explore the history of our county and the Pony Express. Our new public art project, Black Squirrels on Parade, lets you get up close and personal with Marysville’s official mascot!  Twenty-one five-foot fiberglass black squirrels are displayed all throughout town, designed and painted by local and regional artists, so while in town for the viewing of the eclipse you can go on a Black Squirrel Hunt!

In addition, we have numerous recreation activities for you to enjoy time outdoors, including the Blue River Rail Trail, Marysville Country Club Golf Course, Alcove Springs Historic Park, Marysville Aquatic Center, as well as tennis courts and much more. We have two officially viewing sites in Marysville: The 7th Street Corridor to City Park and the Lakeview Sports Complex. 

7th Street Corridor/City Park:  close proximity to our downtown with a number of dining options and unique retailers. Also adjacent to RV area at City Park.

Lakeview Sports Complex:  access to restrooms, large parking lots and large, unobstructed viewing areas.
