Solarbration – Total Solar Eclipse Event

The City of Waterloo and local merchants group, Explore Waterloo, are collaborating together to host a spectacular viewing party for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse – “Solarbration”.

On August 21, spectators from across the nation will gather to witness the Total Solar Eclipse. This rare and wondrous spectacle will be seen from coast to coast, but only if you are within the path of totality. Waterloo is lucky enough to be in this path! So, we are having a viewing party so the community to come together and have an out-of-this-world celebration!! In Waterloo, the total solar eclipse will occur at 1:17pm for 2 minutes and 10 seconds of “totality.”

The Solarbration is free to attend and will take place at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on August 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event will include live music by Brad Noe, local food vendors, an artisan, craft and merchant fair and other activities that are still in the works. Interested vendors can contact City Hall at 618-939-8600 ext. 211.

There will also be science industry experts present to give details on the natural phenomenon as it’s being witnessed and Solar Eclipse viewing glasses will be available to attendees for FREE (limited quantity). Special edition Glow In The Dark Explore Waterloo t-shirts will also be for sale.

In conjunction with this event, the City of Waterloo is sponsoring a “Don’t Get Left in the Dark” campaign where residents will be able to get a high-efficiency LED light bulb with a life span of 20+ years for free. Residents should watch for a coupon to receive their free bulb in the June Mayor’s Newsletter that comes with their utility bills. One bulb per household will be given. Remaining bulbs will be given at the Solarbration.

For more information, contact Sarah Deutch at 618-939-8600 ext. 211 or [email protected].  Follow www.facebook.com/WaterlooILSolarbration to keep up with more details to come.
